Chapter 66 I have revealed the truth of the world!
With a low, hissing sound as air pressure was released, the milky-white, cryogenic dormant gas slowly dissipated, as if some mysterious ritual was completing its final steps. The heavy alloy hatch slid open to the sides with a slight mechanical creak, revealing the sleeping body inside.
Li Fulan, naked, slowly sat up from the hibernation pod.
A few beads of water clung to his signature short blond hair, sliding down the ends and dripping onto his broad shoulders, then meandering down his taut muscles.
Without the cover of clothing, his body, honed through countless trials and perfected like an ancient Greek sculpture, was completely exposed to the cold air.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist, full chest muscles, and sharply defined abdominal muscles as if sculpted with a knife. The lines of each muscle are smooth and powerful, neither overly exaggerated nor thin, containing just the right amount of explosive power.
His deep black eyes regained their clarity the moment he awoke, revealing a coldness and maturity that belied his age. His gaze swept over the surroundings, like that of a beast awakening to check the safety of its territory.
He glanced down at his left middle finger; the silver storage ring remained securely on his finger, gleaming faintly under the cold light. This was one of the most important spoils he had brought back from that world, a bridge connecting the two worlds.
"Hey, the great hero is back."
A flippant yet somewhat familiar voice rang out.
Lin An leaned against a metal control panel not far away, arms crossed, a half-smile playing on his lips. He casually grabbed a specially made combat suit and tossed it precisely at Li Fulan.
"This infiltration took longer than expected," he said, with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "I thought you'd found a pretty girl over there and were having too much fun to leave."
Li Fulan raised her hand and steadily caught the clothes in mid-air, her movements swift and decisive, without the slightest hesitation.
"It took a long time, but the results were good."
He slowly put on his clothes, covering his testosterone-fueled body, and replied in a nonchalant tone. The tight-fitting black tactical vest clung to his upper body, outlining his breathtakingly muscular physique.
"How's the situation outside? Is there anything I need to know?"
"Same as always, nothing much has changed." Lin An shrugged, then gestured towards the depths of the laboratory. "But that's not important. What's important is that Elder Yuan is impatient. He asked at least eight hundred times if you were awake yet, almost driving me crazy."
"He's still as impatient as ever." Li Fulan finished putting on his last coat, buttoned it up, and straightened his collar. That composure and confidence that belonged to a "transmigrator" returned to him, and he seemed like a completely different person, transforming from the slight languor he had just awakened to a sharp and assertive demeanor.
"Let's go, don't keep him waiting."
The two walked through a futuristic, silver-white corridor, illuminated by cold lights that made the entire passage resemble the interior of a spaceship. Researchers in white lab coats hurried past on both sides of the corridor, stopping to nod respectfully when they saw Li Fulan.
Pushing open a heavy, airtight door, the two entered a more spacious and sophisticated biological laboratory.
The laboratory was brightly lit, and a dozen researchers in white lab coats were working busily. Various precision instruments emitted regular ticking and humming sounds, and the screens displayed dense amounts of data and charts.
But everyone's attention was focused on the elderly man in the middle with gray hair and a fervent gaze—Professor Yuan.
The chief scientist, who was over seventy years old, was pacing back and forth in front of the lab table like an ant on a hot plate, rubbing his hands together and muttering something to himself.
"Fran! You're finally awake!"
When Yuan Lao saw Li Fulan appear at the door, his eyes lit up instantly, like two light bulbs being switched on. Without even exchanging pleasantries, he rushed over, extending his withered hands that trembled slightly with excitement.
"That heart! Where's the sample? Bring it out quickly!"
"Here."
Li Fulan remained calm, her fingers gently tracing the Sumeru Ring.
A flash of light.
A heart, still beating slightly, appeared out of nowhere in his palm.
That heart does not belong to a human.
It was at least a third larger than a normal human heart, its surface covered with strange, dark red patterns that resembled some kind of ancient runes, shimmering slightly with each heartbeat. Even more terrifying, this heart was still beating.
Boom, boom, boom.
The deep, powerful thumping echoed in the quiet laboratory, each beat radiating a chilling aura—ancient, wild, and brimming with primal power.
"Oh my god..."
The surrounding researchers gasped, some even instinctively taking a step back.
"Put it on the lab table! Quick! Everyone get ready!" Yuan Lao's voice cracked with excitement, sounding sharp like a rooster being strangled.
Li Fulan placed the heart on the sterile operating table as instructed. The moment the heart touched the cold metal surface, the surrounding researchers immediately swarmed around it, their movements disciplined yet visibly tense. Mechanical arms extended from all directions, and various scanning beams instantly enveloped the heart, enveloping it in layers of light.
"Start chromosome sequencing!" Yuan stared intently at the massive display screen, his hands gripping the table so tightly his knuckles turned white. His entire body trembled slightly—the tremor of impending truth.
"Extracting cell nuclei..."
"Separating chromosomes..."
"Counting begins..."
The researchers' reports rang out one after another, like the chanting of some kind of sacred ritual.
The laboratory was so quiet that only the ticking of the instruments and Professor Yuan's heavy breathing could be heard. Everyone held their breath, their eyes fixed on the huge display screen.
Li Fulan stood to the side with his arms crossed, a faint smile playing on his lips. He looked as relaxed as if he were watching a football match whose outcome he already knew, as if all of this was just a formality for him.
"Report! Test complete!"
A young researcher's trembling voice broke the silence.
On the large screen, a complex set of genetic maps was instantly unfolded. Dense data poured out like a waterfall, with curves of various colors intertwining to form an abstract painting that laymen could not understand at all.
But none of the people present were laymen.
"Chromosome count..." Yuan's gaze was fixed on the most crucial data line, his voice hoarse as if it had been sanded.
"36!"
"36 articles...it really is 36 articles..."
Yuan Lao muttered to himself, his voice sounding like a dream or a prayer. His eyes were wide open, reflecting the striking number on the screen, and his whole body was trembling.
Then, he suddenly burst into wild laughter.
"Hahahahahaha!!!"
The laughter was filled with awe for the truth, ecstasy at the discovery, and a kind of frenzied excitement at finally proving himself. He jumped up excitedly like a child, waving the data tablet in his hand and looking around at everyone present.
"Did you see that? Did you see that!"
Yuan's voice echoed in the laboratory, trembling at the end:
"36 chromosomes! Not the 46 chromosomes of humans! Nor the number of chromosomes in any known primate!"
He turned abruptly to Li Fulan, his cloudy old eyes gleaming with fanaticism:
"The demon race hypothesis is established! Everyone, the 'humans' of the Douluo world are not truly human! They share the same origin as the soul beasts there! In essence... they are another form of demon race!"
Mr. Yuan took a deep breath, and his voice became solemn and sacred:
"Friends, I have revealed the truth of the world!"
